Aileen Gorman joined The Commonwealth Institute in 1999 as Executive Director after a 12-year career as a senior executive for The Stop & Shop Companies and Bradlees Department Stores. In her 14 years at the Boston-based Commonwealth Institute–a not-for-profit organization that helps women entrepreneurs, CEOs and senior executives build successful businesses and careers–Gorman has led a team that has worked with over 2,500 businesswomen to greater success in their roles as entrepreneurs or senior executives .
Under Gorman’s leadership, The Commonwealth Institute has launched the annual “Top 100 Women-Led Companies” list in Massachusetts which demonstrates the impact of women led businesses on the State’s economy, expanded into two states (Florida, New Hampshire) and broadened its reach to serve companies ranging from $1 million to several hundred million dollars in annual revenue.
Earlier in her career, Gorman was the national spokesperson for Anheuser-Busch Inc., a founding Director of the Food Safety Council, a public/private partnership in Washington D.C. and Executive Director of the National Consumers Congress, a nationwide food safety lobbying organization. She also served as a Vista Volunteer organizing welfare recipients in Troy, Alabama.
A native of Long Island, NY, Gorman earned an M..A. in Asian Studies at St. John’s University in Queens, NY. And Certification in Management and Administration form Harvard Extension.
