Patricia Thorp is senior consultant at rbb Public Relations. Before joining rbb in 2010, she was president of Thorp & Company for 21 years. She has decades of experience developing integrated communications programs for the nation’s top professional services firms; leading telecommunications, computer hardware and software companies; and the world’s largest healthcare and pharmaceutical companies.
Prior to founding Thorp & Company, Patricia was vice president of public relations at one of the largest advertising agencies in Florida. Before this, she managed the Miami office of Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, where she was promoted from freelancer to general manager in less than three years. At Edelman, Patricia developed public relations programs for general corporate and financial accounts and was one of the firm’s crisis communications specialists.
Active in industry and community affairs, Patricia currently is the board chairman of MCCJ, the Miami Coalition of Christians and Jews. She also serves on the board of Baptist Health Systems’ Doctor’s Hospital. She is a board member and trustee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. She also serves as a board member and board secretary for The Commonwealth Institute, a board member of Suited for Success, a non-profit organization, and is a BusinessWeek Market Advisory board member.
She has also served as chairperson of the Miami City Ballet’s marketing committee and the International Advertising Association’s events committee, where she was also a board member.
In 2006, Thorp & Company was named Business of the Year in its field by the South Florida Business Journal.
In 2007, 2008 and 2010, Patricia was named a national finalist for the Stevie Awards for Women in Business under the “Women Helping Women” category.
In 2008, she was named Entrepreneurial Businesswoman of the Year by the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce.
In 2009, Patricia was an honoree in South Florida Business Journal’s awards to Influential Business Women.
Patricia was named a Woman Extraordinaire for 2010 by Business Leader Media.
Client companies and national organizations frequently call upon Patricia to share her expertise on topics ranging from marketing communications and public relations to business networking and strategic planning. She has led media, marketing and sales training sessions for senior executives with major corporations. In addition, Thorp has presented speeches to national and international organizations such as the International Airline CEO Conference, The Commonwealth Institute, e-Women’s Network, and the Florida Bar Association.
Patricia earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida, where she majored in public relations, was named Outstanding Student of the Year and received four honors scholarships.
