University of Miami
Naomi Nixon currently serves as Associate Vice President for Central Development at the University of Miami. In this capacity, she is responsible for developing and implementing the overall strategy for the University’s Momemtum2 campaign, with a fundraising goal of $1.6 billion. Ms. Nixon oversees several departments, including Research, Stewardship and Development Communications, Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Citizens’ Board, and Estate and Gift Planning. During her tenure, Ms. Nixon has also been directly responsible for coordinating and implementing an annual plan that enlists philanthropic support from corporations and foundations for the Coral Gables and Medical campuses. Additionally, she has been involved in numerous special initiatives, such as promoting the University’s international presence and outreach, specifically as this relates to Latin America. She works closely with University President Donna E. Shalala, the Board of Trustees, and the deans and faculty of the various schools and colleges on strategies designed to increase support for the institution.
Prior to her appointment at the University of Miami, Ms. Nixon served as Vice President for the Vodicka Quintero Group, a public affairs firm located in Miami. In this position, she was involved in strategic planning, government relations, and the development of community coalitions for clients in the public and private sectors. Previously, Ms. Nixon was Manager of the Office of Marketing and Trade Development for Miami International Airport, where she was in charge of executing the Airport’s efforts with regard to marketing, cargo, trade development, and advertising. Prior to that, she served as International Trade Representative for the Florida Department of Commerce, where she promoted the export of Florida goods and services to Latin America.
Ms. Nixon has extensive governmental experience, having worked for the Office of the United States Trade Representative, and in several capacities for Congressman Jim Bacchus, Senator Bob Graham, and Congressman Dan Mica.
Throughout her career, Ms. Nixon has held leadership positions in numerous organizations. She is Co-Founder and President of Women in International Trade and is a board member of UM Hillel. Previously, she served on the Board of Directors of the Beacon Council and Save the Children Latin America and Caribbean. Ms. Nixon received her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Tufts University in 1985, and her Juris Doctorate from George Washington University in 1990. She is a member of the Florida Bar and the Washington, D.C. Bar. Ms. Nixon resides in Miami Beach with her husband Greg and their three children.
