Background:
A Collaborative Project between The Commonwealth Institute & FIU

Nationwide, only 3% of top positions in organizations are filled by women although 50% of professional and managerial positions are held by women. What distinguishes those women who have made it to the top in Florida-based organizations?  That was the focus of the study undertaken by the College of Business Administration and the Center for Leadership at Florida International University in collaboration with The Commonwealth Institute, South Florida.
Senior executives, primary owners of companies, leaders of corporate subsidiaries, and members of The Commonwealth Institute have been included in this study.   Along with their approaches to business strategy, operations, leadership, and personal development, other key areas to be explored include the women’s backgrounds, career progression, work habits, life choices, and motivation.
A list of the women-led companies will be published in June 2007.  The list will be accompanied by profiles of some of the respondents and an analysis of what it takes for a woman to make it to the top.
