TCI S. Florida Board of Advisors Member Edith Osman Receives Professional Excellence Lifetime Achievement Award

This award celebrates the legacy of renowned lawyers and judges who have made a remarkable difference in the legal profession in South Florida.

Ms. Osman is a past president of The Florida Bar, as well as five other bar organizations: the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, both statewide and Dade County, Florida Council of Bar Association Presidents, the Florida Supreme Court Historical Society, and the First Family Law Inn of Court. She has served in the ABA House of Delegates since 1999 and has served on the ABA Board of Governors.  While President of The Florida Bar, Ms.  Osman established a statewide Special Commission on the Legal Needs of Children, and its findings created a blueprint for changes which were subsequently implemented. Under her leadership, The Florida Bar and the Florida Association for Women Lawyers created a book documenting  Florida’s first 150 women lawyers, and honored the 15 surviving pioneers at a Florida Supreme Court Ceremony and a celebratory dinner.

She has been at the forefront of the drive to achieve equality for women within the legal profession throughout her storied career. In recognition of her many contributions, she has received numerous accolades and honors, including the Dade County Bar Association’s David W. Dyer Professionalism Award; the South Florida Business Journal’s Key Partners and Influential Business Women Award; the Florida Association for Women Lawyers Rosemary Barkett Award; and the Anti-Defamation League’s Jurisprudence Award.

Most recently, she was recognized as one of South Florida’s “Most Effective Lawyers” by the Daily Business Review for her pro bono work on behalf of six same sex couples who were denied marriage licenses by the Clerk of the Miami-Dade County Court.

Ms. Osman received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law and her B.A. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
